After several weeks of significantly reduced productivity due to two workshops I had to attend (and prepare material for them), I am finally back to fully focus on the development of Requiem. :) Since my last estimate was "hopefully end of August", I think it's time to give a somewhat more detailed status report of the project. (Never believe a conference in your hometown is less work than one abroad...)

Before telling you (once again) how close we are to the finish this update, I first have some bad news for you:

As we found out in the last days, I actually optimized my scripts too aggressively for this version. While everything works fine in a new 1.8 savegame, we had severe problems to update our own old savegames to the new version. Fixing these issues would likely take at least another two weeks. In addition with the consideration that many users would like not follow the update instructions for the world respawn in detail (based on the number of faulty installations...), we have therefore decided that it is better to focus on finishing the update. I am really sorry for this inconvenience, but I believe that most of you prefer to have the new version as soon as possible.

In contrast to previous statements I made, 1.8 will not be backwards compatible. You will need to start a new game.

But enough of the bad news... Let's have a look at the good ones:

This nice little pie chart my issue tracker generated for me gives you a good idea where we currently stand. Note that an "issue" can be a bug, a balance tweak or even a completely new feature.

  • half of the issues we wanted to address in 1.8 are finished
  • another quarter is in the final test stage (and most of them should not need another iteration)
  • the remaining issues are mostly the big features that are still blocked by some small subissue in the test stage

So, what we still want to do before the update is final, are the following few things:

  • Stormcloak guards still need their overhaul (a bigger issue, but I am on vacation today, so that should be done this evening)
  • Ralof and Hadvar will be revamped to be more useful in Helgen
  • some followers still need some heavy armor perks
  • a few tweaks to the tempering of items at the grinding wheel/armor table are needed
  • incorporate the last new models/textures (updated Silverknight and the Stormlord Armor for Ulfric)

Since most of these issues are rather small and easy to implement, I am confident that I can finish all issues around the weekend. Then we still need a few days to test them all and then it's finally release time.

To pass the remaining waiting time, I have uploaded the preview changelog with the lastest additions for you. (smile)
